The Virgin Suicides

One would think when sugardaddy Franky Ford Coppolla pulled some strings so his very young daughter Sophia could make a flick about her favorite book, we would be spoon fed ego medicine. And how the Coppolla's did prove this big kid wrong. A very stylistic film that has quite a compelling story to it, to say the least, I was quite suprised. We follow the suburban dream go down the disco dishwasher in this film set in the 1970s. I won't spoil the plot for you because it's just too damn good. (hint: the title gives a lot away) James Wood and Kathleen Turner play the parents of the little brats who are only out for neighborhood love and flashy album covers. The ultra-cool film name of the year appears also: Trip Fontane.

The sountrack by the French band Air is creepy and puts quite a heebie-jeebie feel to the film. It's an independent film, so don't expect to see it untill in comes out on video unless you're lucky enough to live by a city that show's artsy films. Sophia Coppolla is married to Spike Jonze, the man behind "Being John Malkovich" and I think we can expect great babies on the screen and in the oven soon.
